As you may know, January is human trafficking awareness month! We have been spreading awareness on campus and had a very successful day at the winter activities fair. We got to explain to dozens of students what we are doing as a group to help end human trafficking and explain what they are capable of doing as individuals. We do not believe that people should be bought and sold.
At our first semester meeting, all of the attendees made it a point to send an email to big companies asking that they be transparent about their supply chain. Human Trafficking is directly due to business demands, so one thing we can do is to put pressure on companies. They have to know they their customers are not okay with human abuse by negligence. It is up to us to alert companies of the issue of modern day slavery and to make them aware that we are interested in transparent supply chains so that we are not part of the problem but rather the solution. Made in a Free World has made it incredibly easy for you to do your part with their pre-written letter! Invite companies to use FRDM... Check it out here and TAKE ACTION! :-)

Happy MLK day! We hope you are enjoying your break from Monday classes. We are using this time to prepare for the UGA Winter Activities Fair. It's this Wednesday and we will be there representing Students Ending Slavery at Tate starting at 10a.m. We look forward to seeing you there as well as at the first semester meeting at 6p.m. in Tate 472 that same evening. If you have any questions about how you can get involved with our fight to end human trafficking email [email protected]. We are always looking for support. :-) In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. we want to remember his words regarding justice: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter". Hello everyone, As you are probably well aware, the break is officially over... but it's okay because we have exciting things in store for this semester! We will be at the U.G.A. Winter Activities fair on Wednesday, January 21st, from 10am-3pm. We have also received confirmation from campus reservations and plan to have our very first meeting that evening (1/21/15) at 6pm. Come meet us in Tate room 472 for snacks and information about what you can do to help us end modern day slavery. Not to mention you will have the opportunity to meet some really great people on campus that you might not otherwise get to know! If you couldn't tell, we are SUPER excited about this movement. Please email [email protected] with any questions or if you want to join the listerv to receive updates about meetings and philanthropy events. Have a wonderful first week back. :-) "Freeing slaves is about community. It's about strengthening community resistance in slavery hot spots so that traffickers cannot prey on vulnerable children, women and men. And it's about building a community of supporters among those of us who live with the blessing of liberty, and then building a bridge between those who need help and those who can provide it." - Free the Slaves |
